Você só vai saber se você está sob este efeito quando entender exatamente do que se trata. Para contextualizar é preciso primeiro que meus leitores imaginários entendem o que é Bollywood. 
Bollywood é o nome dado a maior indústria cinematográfica da Índia em língua hindi. O nome Bollywood surgiu na verdade da fusão de Bombaim (antigo nome de Mumbai, cidade onde se concentra esta indústria), e de Hollywood (centro da indústria cinematográfica nos Estados Unidos).
Em um único filme de Bollywood o espectador pode experimentar diferentes gêneros. É o esquema pague 1 leve 5. Você assiste romance, comédia, suspense, ficção e terror em um filme que tem duração mínima de 3 horas. É isso mesmo, os filmes de bollywood nunca tem pressa para acabar. Outra característica essencial é que todo filme é regado a muita música e coreografias de dança nos momentos mais inesperados e geralmente sem o menor contexto.
Em um filme típico de Bollywood basicamente tudo pode acontecer. Um garoto de uma casta considerada “inferior” (dalit) e uma garota de casta “superior” (brahmin) podem se apaixonar loucamente e sem nunca terem sequer se beijado. Dois gangsters podem estar quase se matando e depois de um minuto começarem a cantar enquanto dançam abraçados. Dois irmãos separados no nascimento milagrosamente se reconhecem enquanto caminham nas ruas de Delhi. Uma menina e um menino se apaixonam mas descobrem que suas famílias são inimigas e mesmo assim conseguem vencer todos os obstáculos para viverem uma linda estória de amor. E por aí vai. Normalmente o tema central da estória sempre envolve amores impossíveis.
Russel Peters, famoso comediante canadense e filho de pais indianos, faz uma ótima sátira dos filmes de bollywood. Na minha opinião ele captou a essência de uma forma muito engraçada. Vejam o vídeo abaixo:
O ponto aqui é que as estórias de bollywood não poderiam ser mais distantes da realidade. Em um país onde o casamento arranjado pela família é o padrão, fico aqui pensando porque esses temas são tão populares?
O filme de bollywood nada mais é que uma total fuga da realidade. E talvez seja por isso mesmo que faça tanto sucesso na Índia. Todo mundo tem o direito de sonhar. E o cinema indiano eleva este direito a outro patamar. Em uma sociedade tão estratificada e opressora como a indiana, os filmes parecem ser a única forma de materializar os sonhos de milhares de indianos. Mesmo que seja apenas por algumas horas, o filme de bollywood trabalha com o imaginário mais íntimo de cada um daqueles espectadores que choram, riem, aplaudem ao ver um casal de castas distintas tendo um final feliz.
Voltando ao começo do texto, onde pergunto se você leitor está sob o efeito de bollywood. Você por acaso já viveu um amor impossível? Já se imaginou largando tudo por algo ou alguém? Já pensou em largar tua profissão atual e abrir uma pousada na frente do mar? Já pensou em virar, ator, cantor ou escritor?
Se sim, até que ponto você levou pra frente sua estória? Esse é o ponto….se você fosse um personagem de um filme de bollywood, você não pensaria duas vezes para encontrar seu amor em um país distante, ou você talvez largaria tudo agora mesmo atrás do seu sonho de virar jogador de futebol ou trapezista do Cique du Soleil. Não importa. Quando você está sob o efeito bollywood você acaba vivendo de sonhos que nem sempre são palpáveis. Sou 100% a favor de pensar grande e sonhar. Mas a pergunta de um milhão de dólares é até que ponto você realmente está disposto a assumir todos os riscos que os filmes de bollywood não mostram?
Eu mesma creio que estou com leves sintomas do efeito bollywood. No tempo em que estive na índia comecei a namorar com o Alejandro, um colombiano que conheci na mesma empresa que trabalho. Os dois loucamente apaixonados passaram 2 meses juntos antes de ele ter que voltar para a Colômbia. Eu continuei trabalhando na Índia. O relacionamento continuou graças a internet (Skype, MSN, etc…). Em países e realidades distintas será mesmo possível que um relacionamento assim possa dar certo? Pode ser que sim, pode ser que não.
Se fosse uma estória de Bollywood provavelmente largaríamos tudo pra ficarmos juntos não? Um encontro de um colombiano e uma brasileira na Índia é tão inesperado que só pode ser coisa do destino, certo? E por isso deve-se seguir o coração…. Mas será mesmo que você consideraria fazer o mesmo na sua vida real?
Na vida quem está realmente disposto a transformar um filme de bollywood em realidade? Quem está disposto a apostar na incerteza? Quem está disposto a largar o emprego para seguir um caminho empreendedor? Quem quer ir realmente atrás dos sonhos? E como saber quais sonhos vale a pena seguir? Talvez apenas 5% das pessoas tome a atitude radical de simplesmente arriscar e pagar para ver.
Estes 5% me fez lembrar de um amigo meu brasileiro que vive na Índia. Conheceu uma brasileira durante alguns dias enquanto estava de férias no Brasil. Se apaixononaram e resolveram viver juntos na Índia. Definitivamente esse é um exemplo clássico de arriscar e pagar para ver. É quase uma versão brasileira de um filme de bollywood.
Acho que todo mundo tem que experimentar momentos de bollywood na vida. O truque aqui é saber se você está disposto a elevar o seu momento bollywood ao patamar da realidade. Do contrário meu querido leitor, sinto-lhe informar que você foi contaminado pelo efeito bollywood.
Pra terminar assistam o trecho de um típico filme de bollywood (Kal ho naa hoo) estrelado por nada mais nada menos que Shah Rukh Khan, o “Brad Pitt” da Índia….Esse filme me introduziu ao mundo de bollywood. Divirtam-se e tentem aprender a coreografia!!!!

Bollywood is the name given to India’s largest film industry in hindi language. The name came from a merger of Mumbai (former name of Mumbai, a city where the industry is concentrated) and Hollywood (center of the film industry in the U.S.).
In one Bollywood film the viewer can experience different genres of movies. Pay one take 5 kind of a thing. You watch romance, comedy, suspense, drama and terror in a film which has duration of at least 3 hours. That’s right, the bollywood movies are never on a rush to finish. Another key feature is that every movie has lots of songs and dance choreographies in the most unexpected moments, most of the times, mostly the songs come out of nowhere!
In a typical Bollywood film basically anything can happen. A boy from a caste considered “inferior” (Dalit) caste, and a girl of “higher” (Brahmin) can fall madly in love and without ever having kissed. Two gangsters can be almost killing each other and after one minute will be hugging and dancing. Two brothers separated at birth miraculously will recognize each other while walking on the streets in Delhi. A girl and a boy fall in love but suddenly find out that their families are enemies and somehow they still manage to overcome all obstacles to live a beautiful love story. And so on. Usually the central theme of the story always involves an impossible love.
Russell Peters, a famous Canadian comediant and son of Indian parents, makes a great satire of the bollywood movies. I think he captured the essence in a very funny way. Watch the video below:

The point here is that the stories of bollywood could not be further from the reality. In a country where the arranged marriage by the family is the rule, the standard, why are these movies so popular?
The movie of bollywood is nothing but a total escape from reality. And perhaps for this reason it is such a huge hit in India. Everyone has the right to dream. And the Indian film raises this right to another level. In a society somehow oppressive and conservative as the Indian, the Indian films seem to be the only way to materialize the dreams of thousands of Indians. Even for a few hours, the bollywood movie has the capacity to develop the imagination of those Indians who can cry, laugh, and applaud when watching a couple of different castes with a happy ending.
Returning to the beginning of the text, where I ask if you are under the bollywood effect. Have you ever lived an impossible love story? Have you ever thought about giving up of something to be with someone? Have you ever thought about giving up your current career to open a bar in front of the beach? Have you ever thought about doing something different, like becoming an actor, singer or writer?
If yes, how far did you take forward your story? This is the point …. If you were a character in a film of bollywood, you will not think twice to go after your love in a distant country, or to go after your dream of becoming a football player or the trapeze artist in Cirque du Soleil. It does not matter. When you are under the effect you ended up living out of dreams that are not always tangible. I am 100% in favor of thinking big and dreaming. But the million dollar question here is how much are you really willing to take the risk that show bollywood movies do not show?
I believe that I am with mild symptoms of the bollywood effect. In the time it was in India I started dating Alejandro, a Colombian guy who was working on the same company. The two of us fell madly in love but after two months his contract expired and he had to go back to Colombia. I continued working in India. The relationship continued through Internet (Skype, MSN, etc …). In different countries and different situations, does this relationship have a promising future? Maybe yes, maybe not.
If it was a Bollywood story, we would probably gave up on everything else just to be together, right? The meeting of a Colombian and a Brazilian in India is such an unexpected thing which can only be the destiny, right? So one you should follow your heart …. But will you even consider doing the same in your real life? Any unexpected situation, such as meeting someone from another country in a third country, falling madly in love, being separated going back home… its seem like a Bollywood movie in the making, but what would happen in the end of a Bollywood movie? Its so unexpected that is must be fate, therefore one must follow their heart. But would you consider doing the same in your real life?
In life who is really willing to turn a movie from bollywood in reality? Who is willing to bet in the uncertainty? Who is willing to leave their jobs to follow an entrepreneurial path? Who really wants to go behind their dreams? And what dream is worth following? Perhaps only 5% of people take the radical attitude and just pay to see.
These 5% reminds me of a Brazilian friend who lives in India. He met a Brazilian girl for a few days while he was on vacation in Brazil. They completely fell in love and resolved to live together in India. Definitely this is a classic example of taking a risk. It is almost a Brazilian version of a real bollywood movie.
I think everyone should experience bollywood moments in life. The trick here is to think whether you are willing to take it to new heights. Otherwise my dear reader, I inform you that you have been contaminated by the bollywood effect.
